Eastern Florida State College Will Stay Closed Tuesday After All — Reversing Its Reopening Plan

Eastern Florida State College said it will remain closed Tuesday and keep monitoring conditions across its four campuses — a reversal of the reopening this station reported earlier Monday, and the last open question in Brevard's school-closure picture is now answered: everything is closed.

Eastern Florida State College Will Stay Closed Tuesday After All — Reversing Its Reopening Plan (Orlando Watch News)

Eastern Florida State College will remain closed on Tuesday after all. The college said it will stay shut and that conditions across its four campuses will continue to be monitored, Florida Today reports — reversing the reopening that this station, following the college's earlier guidance, reported in its mid-afternoon file, and settling the 'no decision yet' status the station carried into the evening. Students should treat Tuesday as a full closure day and watch the college's own channels for Wednesday.

The decision completes a clean sweep of Brevard County education closures for Election Day. Brevard Public Schools will close all campuses and offices Tuesday, Nov. 3, as the district continues to assess flooding and building safety, with schools expected to resume operations Wednesday. Florida Tech cancelled all classes and campus activities for Tuesday while crews clear flood debris and work to restore power, and the Diocese of Orlando closed all of its Brevard schools for Tuesday as well.

The closures trace back to a single extraordinary day of rain — 16 to 22 inches on National Weather Service gauges in the hardest-hit parts of the county, a total the weather service framed as a one-in-a-1,000-year event around Palm Bay and West Melbourne. With roads still holding water, Melbourne under a precautionary boil-water notice and damage assessments only beginning, every Brevard school system reached the same conclusion on Monday night: Tuesday belongs to the cleanup, not the classroom.
