John Washington III Calls for Guaranteed, Independent Funding for All Three Branches of Government
John Washington III, a 2028 presidential candidate, said that when Congress controls the courts' funding, checks and balances crack — and he called for guaranteed, independent funding for all three branches, with full public accountability.

John Washington III is arguing that the way the federal courts are paid for puts the justice system itself at risk. When Congress controls the courts' funding, the justice system can suffer, John Washington III wrote. In 2025, he wrote, the federal courts had to scale back paid operations because of a funding lapse. "That's not balance. That's dependence," he wrote. "If one branch can squeeze another financially, then checks and balances start to crack."
John Washington III asked readers to picture the position of an ordinary defendant. "Picture yourself in court without a $10,000 lawyer," he wrote. "You don't know all the rules, but prosecutors do." Judges must be free to protect people's constitutional rights, he wrote, not worry about politics or budgets while they do it.
His proposal, as he stated it, is guaranteed, independent funding for all three branches of government, paired with full public accountability and no political retaliation. "This isn't unlimited money," John Washington III wrote. "It's about protecting the people's rights and restoring real independence among the branches."
