Miami Stays No. 1 in the AP Top 25, Georgia Rises to No. 2 After Beating Florida — and the Gators Hang On at No. 25
Miami held the No. 1 spot in the Associated Press Top 25 after its 38-35 win over North Carolina, Georgia climbed to No. 2 on the strength of its 27-8 win over Florida, and Ohio State tumbled nine places to No. 11 after losing at USC. Florida, beaten in Atlanta, holds the final spot in the poll at No. 25.

Miami remains the No. 1 team in the country. The Hurricanes (8-0) held the top spot in the latest Associated Press Top 25 after pulling out a 38-35 victory over North Carolina on Saturday, Reuters reports, and they now own the ranking outright heading into November. Georgia (7-1) took over the No. 2 spot from Ohio State after its 27-8 victory over Florida in Atlanta — the same game this station filed Saturday night — while Utah (8-0) moved up three places to No. 3 after a 49-25 win over Cincinnati, and Notre Dame (7-1) rose to No. 4 after beating Navy 35-13.
The poll's biggest fall belonged to Ohio State. The Buckeyes (6-2) plummeted nine spots to No. 11, out of the top 10 entirely, after falling behind early in a 30-18 loss at Southern California. UCLA (8-0) rose two spots to No. 5 with a 27-0 nonconference win over Nevada — the Bruins' highest ranking since 2001, in an 8-0 start under new head coach Bob Chesney. Indiana (8-1) dropped two places to No. 6 despite forcing overtime on a last-second field goal and beating Minnesota 23-16, and BYU, Kentucky, Alabama and Texas round out the top 10. Two of the nation's top seven teams call Utah home, and the state gets its showcase on Saturday when Utah hosts BYU.
For Florida, the poll is a split verdict. The Gators (5-3) were beaten soundly by the new No. 2 team in the country, and the voters kept them in the rankings — barely — at No. 25, the final spot. The week's other milestone sits at No. 22: New Mexico (7-1) moved into the Top 25 for the first time in program history after a 21-16 win at San Jose State. The full top five — Miami, Georgia, Utah, Notre Dame and UCLA — includes two unbeaten Utah-school programs in the top seven and a Florida team at No. 1, which is the shape of the playoff race as the season turns to its final month.
