College Basketball Opens Tonight With No. 1 Florida Against No. 14 Miami at 6 P.M. — and UCF Tips at 7 in Orlando
Opening night of the 2026-27 season is headlined by a ranked Florida fight — preseason No. 1 Florida against No. 14 Miami at 6 p.m. on ESPN2 — on a marathon Monday that also brings UCF's home opener against FGCU at 7 p.m. and ranked games running past midnight.

College basketball does not ease in this year. The 2026-27 season technically opened Sunday morning in Rome, where Notre Dame upset Villanova, but the season's first full night is tonight — and its headline game belongs to Florida: preseason AP No. 1 Florida against No. 14 Miami, tipping at 6 p.m. Eastern on ESPN2. A No. 1 team playing a real, ranked opponent on opening night is the rarest thing on the November calendar, and it is an all-Florida game — the state's two ranked programs testing in week one what most teams spend a month avoiding.
Orlando's own opener runs an hour later. UCF hosts Florida Gulf Coast at Addition Financial Arena at 7 p.m. on ESPN+ — the Knights' 11th straight home opener, with a rebuilt roster of 11 newcomers, as this station previewed in full on Sunday. Around those two Florida fixtures, the national marathon runs deep into the night: No. 15 Gonzaga against Purdue at 7:30 p.m. on TNT, Memphis against No. 18 Iowa State at 7 p.m. on FS1, Ohio State against No. 25 BYU at 9 p.m. on FS1, and No. 5 Arizona against No. 22 UCLA at 10 p.m. on TNT.
Opening night results in November are famously unreliable as prophecy — rosters are new, rotations are guesses, and one hot shooting night can dress a mediocre team in a ranked win. What tonight does establish, for Florida and Miami especially, is a measuring stick both staffs chose on purpose. By midnight, the state's basketball pecking order will have its first honest data point of the season, UCF will know what its rebuild looks like against a live opponent, and the long road to March will be officially underway.
