Orange County Voters Decide November 3 Whether to Continue the One-Mill School Tax Through 2031
The November 3 ballot asks Orange County voters whether to continue the existing one-mill property tax that supports teacher pay, academic programs, arts and athletics in Orange County Public Schools.

One of the most direct money questions on Orange County's November 3 ballot is a school question. Orange County Public Schools states on its official referendum page that the School Board has called the election to ask voters whether to continue the current one-mill ad valorem millage for essential operating expenses — a continuation of an existing funding source, the district says, not a new tax.
If voters approve it, the continuation runs for four fiscal years, from July 1, 2027 through June 30, 2031. The ballot language dedicates the money to compensation for teachers and educational support employees and to preserving academic programs, arts, athletics and student activities, and it requires the funds to be shared proportionately with charter schools as the law requires, with annual reporting on how the money is used.
The question is being decided in the general election now underway: early voting in Orange County runs through Sunday, November 1 at the county's 27 sites, and Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, with polls open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The district's referendum page carries the full official ballot summary for voters who want the exact wording before they cast a ballot.
