Dolphins Blow a 13-3 Halftime Lead in the Rain — Maye's Three Second-Half Touchdowns Lift the Patriots 24-19 in Miami Gardens

Miami led by 10 at the break at a rain-soaked Hard Rock Stadium; New England scored 21 unanswered points behind Drake Maye, and even Malik Willis's 35-yard touchdown strike to Kevin Coleman Jr. with 2:04 left was not enough after the conversion failed and the onside kick stayed with the Patriots.

Dolphins Blow a 13-3 Halftime Lead in the Rain — Maye's Three Second-Half Touchdowns Lift the Patriots 24-19 in Miami Gardens (Orlando Watch News)

For one half on a rain-soaked Sunday in Miami Gardens, the Dolphins had the game they needed. Then the second half took it. New England rallied from a 13-3 halftime deficit to beat Miami 24-19 at Hard Rock Stadium, scoring 21 unanswered points after the break behind quarterback Drake Maye.

Maye completed 16 of 20 passes for 199 yards and two touchdowns, doing most of the damage after halftime — 9 of 10 for 146 yards in the second half, Reuters reported. He hit Kyle Williams for a 43-yard touchdown with 9:23 left in the third quarter to cut Miami's lead to 13-10, ran in a 2-yard score with 59 seconds left in the third to put the Patriots ahead 17-13, and found DeMario Douglas for a 48-yard touchdown with 12:39 to play that stretched the lead to 24-13. Rhamondre Stevenson added 82 yards on 19 carries.

Miami's answer came late. Malik Willis, who finished 21 of 32 for 211 yards with two touchdowns and an interception, hit rookie Kevin Coleman Jr. for a 35-yard touchdown with 2:04 left to pull the Dolphins within 24-19 — but the two-point try failed, the Patriots recovered the onside kick and ran out the clock. Miami falls to 1-6 and next hosts the Detroit Lions on November 8; New England improves to 5-3 and hosts Green Bay.
