Orlando's Monday Morning: The Heavy-Rain Code Has Eased to Overcast at 69, but the Flood Watch Still Runs to 7 P.M. and Rain Is Still 97 Percent (Orlando Watch News)

The sky over Orlando lightened its wording before it lightened its load. The station's live weather feed, read at 7:27 a.m. Central, puts the city at 69 degrees and feeling like 70 under weather code 3 — overcast — where the pre-dawn readings carried code 65, heavy rain. That is a real easing in the current conditions, and it is the only easing on the board: Monday's precipitation chance still sits at 97 percent, and the National Weather Service in Melbourne's Flood Watch for Orange, Osceola and Seminole Counties still runs until 7 p.m. tonight.

One forecast number moved in residents' favor. Monday's high is now put at 79.3 degrees, up from the 76.5 the feed carried at 5:27 a.m., with a low of 65.8 — a warmer, grey day rather than a cool washout, on the current numbers. The watch's underlying arithmetic has not changed with the warmer high: the ground is saturated from Sunday and the overnight bands, and the watch was written for runoff and standing water in low-lying spots, which is why the morning's verified road picture — filed separately by the Traffic Desk — already includes a flooded interstate lane in Osceola County.

The rest of the week is unchanged in shape. Election Day on Tuesday carries a drizzle code at 48 percent and a high of 79.3, Wednesday holds rain at 47 percent and 85.3 degrees, Thursday warms to 88.0 with rain down to 16 percent, and Saturday remains the clear payoff at 84.6 degrees and a 5 percent rain chance. Until the watch expires at 7 p.m., though, Monday belongs to it: overcast is a description of the sky at this hour, not an all-clear for the roads.
