I-4's Sand Lake Road Exit Ramp Closes Three Nights This Week, and Sand Lake Road Itself Narrows Nightly Through Thursday
FDOT closes the westbound I-4 exit ramp to Sand Lake Road (Exit 74A) and the Turkey Lake Road loop ramp on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights, while resurfacing narrows Sand Lake Road itself between the Orange Blossom Trail and South Orange Avenue through Thursday night.
The Sand Lake Road corridor takes a double dose of night work this week. The Florida Department of Transportation will close the westbound Interstate 4 exit ramp to Sand Lake Road (State Road 482) at Exit 74A, and the loop ramp from westbound Sand Lake Road to Turkey Lake Road, nightly from Monday, November 2 through Wednesday, November 4. The closures can begin as early as 10 p.m. each night and are expected to end by 6 a.m. the following morning, with the final closure ending on the morning of Thursday, November 5. FDOT says the work is paving, sign structure and lighting work for the improvements at the I-4 and Sand Lake Road interchange.
The published detour keeps drivers on the interchange's other side: westbound I-4 drivers bound for Sand Lake Road take Exit 74B onto northbound Adventure Way, then either turn left onto westbound Hollywood Way and left again onto southbound Turkey Lake Road to reach Sand Lake Road west of I-4, or turn right onto eastbound Hollywood Way and right again onto southbound Universal Boulevard to reach Sand Lake Road east of I-4. Drivers on westbound Sand Lake Road who want southbound Turkey Lake Road take the eastbound I-4 entrance ramp before the overpass, exit at 75A to Universal Boulevard, turn left, then left onto westbound Hollywood Way and left again onto southbound Turkey Lake Road.
The surface street is busy the same nights and one night earlier. From Sunday, November 1 through Thursday, November 5, between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m., FDOT expects intermittent single- and double-lane closures and flagging operations on Sand Lake Road from Orange Blossom Trail to South Orange Avenue for milling, resurfacing and marking work.
