Monday's Drive Runs Under the Extended Flood Watch: Standing Water on Low Roads, Gusts to 30-40, and Long Street Still Closed by SR 408
With the flood watch now running to 7 p.m. and Monday's rain chance at 97 percent, both the morning and evening drives cross flooded-prone low spots — and the Central Florida Expressway Authority's Long Street closure by the SR 408 work runs through November 15.

There is no dry drive today. The National Weather Service's Flood Watch for Orange, Osceola and Seminole Counties now runs through 7 p.m. Monday, which puts both rush hours inside it, and its stated impacts are a driver's list: excessive runoff flooding low-lying and flood-prone locations, on a forecast of 1 to 3 inches of rain area-wide with 5 to 7 inches or more possible in spots. The weather service's hazardous outlook for east central Florida adds the wind — gusts up to 30 to 40 mph in the heavier showers — and names flooding of roadways among the day's primary hazards.
The station's live feed backs the warning at drive time: 68.2 degrees under a heavy-rain code at 5:27 a.m., with Monday's precipitation chance at 97 percent. That combination — saturated ground from Sunday's rain, bands still moving through, and standing water in the usual low spots under overpasses and on older surface streets — is the commute. The watch does not name a single closed road, and this desk invents none: the verified position this morning is water where water collects, spray and gusty crosswinds on the expressways, and a second wet drive home tonight before the watch expires at 7 p.m.
One construction closure does carry into the week on the corridor. The Central Florida Expressway Authority's SR 408 project page lists a Long Street road closure running October 5 through November 15 as part of the 408 improvement work between Tampa Avenue and the I-4 interchange, which is adding an eastbound lane between Orange Blossom Trail and I-4 and rebuilding the Tampa Avenue interchange. Drivers who route around downtown on the surface grid should keep Long Street out of the plan through mid-month, rain or no rain.
